At 0630hrs, Pick-up from your hotel residence. Leave the bustling, relatively flat high-altitude plateau of Nairobi, the road gradually climbs through the lush, rolling green hills and tea plantations of Limuru.
You are hit with staggering, expansive views of the valley floor stretching for miles below. The road then snakes sharply down the steep Limuru Escarpment via a series of dramatic, sweeping switchbacks.
As you branch off towards Lake Naivasha, shifts from paved roads to bumpy, unpaved murram. Inside the park itself, the terrain opens up into the wide, flat, and dusty Ol Njorowa Valley.
Once you clear the escarpment, the landscape changes instantly from green highlands to semi-arid, sweeping savannah plain. The air becomes noticeably warmer and dustier. The terrain is flanked by acacia scrubland and sweeping ranch lands where you will frequently spot zebras and baboons right by the roadside. You are surrounded by towering, sheer obsidian cliffs, columns of volcanic rock (like Fischer's Tower), and rising steam plumes from the nearby geothermal plants. The tracks here are gravelly and unshaded—perfectly flat for cycling.
